2016-2017 Operating Hours and Parking Lot Policy Guidelines

Please refer to the Student Parent Handbook for details for all policies through the Al-Amal School website: www.al-amal.org or get a copy from the administration. The following are critical highlights of operating and parking lot policies. Al-Amal School, in consultation with the Fridley Police Safety Office , has reviewed the policies, and made changes for better community safety for drop-off and pick-ups of children and visitor parking Please note, there are changes this year to some of the policies and fees below.

Al-Amal School begins at 8:00 am (1 st period) and goes until 3:15 pm. After school programs at Al-Amal School will be announced to all parents when available. Sign-up and registration for any after school program will need to be done before students will be allowed to stay after school.


  • Drop-off for all students starts at 7:30 until 7:55 am. Parents can use the middle/high building entrances only.
  • After 8:00 am, the main school door will be locked, and you will need to be buzzed in; use the school’s main entrance by the parking lot during the school day .
  • All parents must vacate the school as soon as they drop off their children, and are not allowed to be present in the building after 8:00 am (during class hours) without an appointment. No appointments with teachers and administration will be held before 8:00 am. Call or email for an appointment during a mutually convenient time through the school phone number 763-571- 8886.

Late Arrival

  • Students are considered late if they are not seated, and ready to begin class, at 8:00 am.
  • All late arrivals must enter through the school’s main entrance by the parking lot, get a late pass from the office, then immediately go to his/her assigned class.
  • The student’s late arrival is documented by the teacher and school secretary.

Pick-Up (Please note major changes have occurred with this policy.)

  • Children are not allowed to leave during the school hours unless parents have an early dismissal pass from the office.
  • The main entrances will remain locked and closed until 3:15 pm. Cars need to line up in appropriate assigned areas for dismissal of students (see diagram for more explanation).
  • All students will be dismissed at 3:15 pm, to their rides that are lined up by the ICM Entrance (for elementary only families) or the School’s main entrance (mixed elementary/middle/high only families).
  • An Al-Amal School staff person will have a walkie talkie outside calling names of families to the office for individual student/family dismissal. Please stay in your car and leave it idling, and be prepared to pull out of line as soon as you pick up your children.
  • If you need to come in for an appointment, please park in the parking lot, and enter the school through the main school entrance; appointments will be after 3:30 pm.
  • If a child is not picked up by 3:30 pm, elementary students will go to Room 204 for late stay. If a middle/high student is not picked up by 3:30 pm, he/she will report to Room 210. Any students not picked up by 3:45 pm will be charged a late pick-up fee through school billing services. Fees will be applied for even those students roaming the hallways after school.

Late Stay

  • Any student not picked up by 3:30 pm will be moved to a late stay room at 3:30 pm (elementary Room 204; middle/high Room 210).
  • All students (PK – 10 th grade) must be picked up by 4:00 pm unless an announced school sponsored activity is announced and signed up for.
  • Latch Key (After School Care) is offered until 5:00 pm under certain circumstances. Please see the main office for the After School Care Program (Latch Key) Application.
  • All students need to be picked up by 5:00 pm.
Late Stay Fees beginning at 3:45 – 5:00 pm Latch Key Fees from 3:45 – 5:00 pm
$10.00 every 15 minutes per child $100/month 1 st child in family
$75/month 2 nd child in family
$65/month 3 rd+ child in family
After 5:00 pm $10.00/child every 15 minutes

Parking Lot and No Parking Zone Rules

  • No vehicle parking or idling is allowed in front of all school entrances including the pavement adjacent to the school from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • It is illegal to make a U-turn in front of the ICM (Islamic Center of Minnesota on Gardena Avenue) entrances. Fridley police will issue citations.
  • The pavement in front of the main school entrance is drop-off only in the mornings. During pick-up (3:00 – 3:30 pm), sitting inside your car and idling will be allowed.
  • If you need to drop-off or pick-up your child from inside the school, park your vehicle in the school parking lot in the marked parking areas only.
  • Please obey the handicapped signs and do not park your vehicle in the two designated ICM Only spots. Follow directions for all parking lot signs and all white arrows, drive slowly (5 MPH), and always watch for children in the parking lots. Be prepared and ready to stop quickly when needed.
  • Follow all directions given by the safety guards present by Gardena Avenue and the school parking lot.
  • Violators will be towed at owner’s expense for parking rule violations. NOTE: All drop-offs are made at the school’s main entrance. No drop-offs or parking in the morning will be allowed on Gardena Avenue (ICM Entrance).


  • Visitors must enter the school through the main school entrance by the parking lot when school is in session. Please proceed to the office and sign in.
  • Visitors, including parents, are not authorized to roam or wait in the school building during school hours (8:00 am – 3:00 pm).
  • Parents, please schedule meetings ahead of time to talk to your child’s teacher or administration.
  • Visitors must obey all safety, evacuation and lockdown procedures when in the building.

After consulting with the Fridley Police Department Safety Office

  • Use shoulder lane on both sides (East shoulder- right side - traveling east; or West shoulder – right side - traveling west) as a waiting lane. Only one side of the street can be a waiting lane as indicated in the italics.
  • No U-turn or parking is allowed on the shoulder lanes in front of the Al-Amal bus loop from the East or West directions.
  • Elementary students only (Pre-K through 5 th grades) dismiss from the Bus Loop on Gardena Avenue.
  • Mixed elementary/middle/high students dismiss from the Main Door/Al-Amal School Parking Lot.
  • Idling on the shoulder lanes while in the car, bus loop, and alongside of the parking lot sidewalk area is permitted during pick-up. Drivers should not leave their cars.
  • An Al-Amal School staff member will call family numbers to the office so students can be released from the classrooms during dismissal. Proper care will be used for the safety of all released students.
  • Family I.D. pick-up numbers will be communicated before the beginning of school for all commuting families. Please have the number visible and available during pick up.
