Al-Amal
School Admission Procedure
Step 1: The
Application Form
-
Fill out an
“Application for Admission” for each child applying.
-
Submit the $50
application fee (one payment per family). The application fee is not
refundable unless your child successfully completes admissions
testing and we are unable to offer admission because the class is
full.
-
Please note: your
application cannot be processed until the $50 fee is received.
-
Do not cancel
your child’s current school enrollment or daycare arrangements until
the application process is complete and your child is officially
accepted (Step #5).
Step 2: Scheduling
the Admissions Test (Preschool and kindergarten go to Step #5)
-
Depending on when
you apply, your child will need to register for an admissions test.
One test per child is included in the application fee. Retesting
will cost $25 per child.
-
If you are
applying for the current school year, you will be contacted for an
appointment once your application is received.
-
For those
applying for the upcoming school year, admissions testing will be
held in the spring. You will be notified in writing when a
date is selected InshaAllah. You must submit an application and
pay the application fee in order to attend.
Step 3: The
Admissions Test
-
Al-Amal School
administers admissions test in the areas of math and language arts
to determine the ability of potential students to meet Al-Amal
School’s academic standards.
-
The scores on
this test, along with your child’s previous school records and an
interview (for middle and high school students),
will be used to determine admission.
-
The tests take
about two hours. Parents are welcome to wait the school; however,
they may wish to make other arrangements until their child is
finished.
-
On the day of the
admissions test, please bring copies of your child’s previous
year’s and most recent report card with you. The application process
cannot be completed without this information.
-
Within ten
business days of the test, you will be notified of the results.
-
Midyear
applicants only: if your child passes you may choose at this time to
notify the office the intended starting date of your child. Please
allow at least three business days, after tests results are
communicated, so that teachers can be notified of your child’s
arrival and other preparations can be made.
Step 4: The
Interview (Grades 6 through 12 only)
-
If your child is
in 6th grade or up and passes the admission test, you
will be contacted for an appointment to come in for an interview
with the Principal.
-
The interview is
intended to get to know the potential student and his/her family,
and to assess the student’s desire and commitment to participate in
and Islamic and respectful environment.
Step 5: Official
Notification Letter
-
After you have
been contacted with the results of the admission test, you will
receive a letter in the mail notifying you of the results of the
admission test.
-
Applicants for
preschool and kindergarten will begin receiving official
notification of their admission status by the end of February
inshaallah (depending on date of application).
-
Al-Amal School
issues four types of letters:
-
Acceptance
Letter: Your child has passed the test and interview.
-
Denial
Letter: Your child did not pass the test and/or interview.
-
Conditional
Letter: Your child performed poorly on the test and/or
interview, but will be accepted on a conditional basis.
-
Waiting List
Letter: Your child has been approved for admission, as of that
date of the letter; however, there is no space available. Please
note: In most circumstances, space opens by the end of August
and we advise remaining on the waiting list until them. You will
not be contacted again unless and until an opening becomes
available.
-
The notification
letter will request an advance deposit, birth certificate,
immunization records, health care summary (preschool and
kindergarten only), and a copy of the social security number card.
Failure to provide any items but the deadline will automatically
cancel admission.
-
If your child has
been accepted or placed on the waiting list and you would like to
withdraw the application, please contact the office immediately.
Step 6: Orientation
and Registration
-
After all
required documents and payment are submitted, you will receive a
letter for New Parent Orientation. As a new family, you are required
to attend an orientation session to familiarize yourself with the
rules and procedures at Al-Amal School.
-
At orientation
you will receive a registration packet. Registration forms contain
important information about your child as well as applicants for
various benefits. Because of the nature of the forms, registration
takes place annually.
-
Failure to
register has many consequences. Therefore, every family must
register at the beginning of each school year.
